Did you include a photo for him to sign in your letter? People who just send out letters and ask the celebrity to give them a picture will often reply with an autopen/preprint picture, however if you actually buy a photo of your own and send it to them for signing it can dramatically increase your chances of getting a REAL autograph.
A lot of celebrities will respond with a PP/Autopen if you don't include a picture in your letter, but as soon as you include one then they will actually take the time to sign it themselves.
